We so enjoyed listening to @flipstork talking about a lifetime of meter and rhyme, and sharing some tips for approaching it and honing this craft.

.

  • write down lines that pop into your head for a week or so, then sit down and count the syllables and see if you have a particular count and rhythm.
  • then work out a form which plays to your inherent rhyme
  • the more syllables you have between rhyme, the easier; so work with forms with longer syllable lines.
  • Find meter and rhyme poets (Robert Frost, Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson for example) who speak to you and duplicate the rhyme scheme.
  • Even go so far as to create your own version of one of their works, like Bill’s version of Wordsworth’s Daffodils.
  • Keep expanding your vocabulary and use tools to stop you falling into a rhyme rut and using the same words all the time – it’s ok to use a thesaurus and rhyme zone!

.

The interview will be live on stories until 5pm CET Monday.  DM @herheartforms to us know if you found it useful and what you’d like to explore more of.

need to check the spelling on several of your posts.

Several of them are rife with spelⅼing problems and I find it ѵery botһersome to
inform the truth on the other hand I’ll surely come back again.
